Vera Frances Green Dennis, 81, of Moncks Corner, SC, a retired school teacher for the Berkeley County School District, died Friday afternoon in Myrtle Beach. Her funeral will be 2:00 PM Sunday afternoon, Feb. 15, 2009, in the Moncks Corner United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Berkeley Memorial Gardens. Friends may cal at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, from 5:00 until 7:00 PM this Saturday. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Moncks Corner United Methodist Church, 200 N. Live Oak Dr., Moncks Corner, SC 29461. Mrs. Dennis was born July 25, 1927, in Andrews, SC, a daughter of Luther Leland Green, Sr., and Leonie Phillips Green. She was a 1944 graduate of Berkeley High School and a 1948 graduate of Limestone College. She received her Master’s Degree from The Citadel. Mrs. Dennis taught school for 42 years, 40 of which were in Berkeley County mainly at Berkeley High School. She was a member of the Moncks Corner United Methodist Church where she served on many committees throughout the years, sang in the choir, and was a member of the Seavy Carroll Circle. She was very active in her community. Mrs. Dennis was a Past Worthy Matron and Life member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Kappa Kappa Iota teaching sororities. She was a Life member of the Town and Village Garden Club, a member of the Moncks Corner/Pinopolis Book Club, and for many years was in charge of the Moncks Corner Little League Baseball and Football. She helped the American Heart Association, Relay for Life, and volunteered at the Berkeley County Museum. Mrs. Dennis was the widow of David A. Dennis and was preceded in death by three siblings, Leone G. Watkins, L.L. Green, Jr., and Betty G. Brittle. Surviving are, a daughter, Dee D. Braswell and her husband, John, of Murrells Inlet; three sons, David A. Dennis, Jr., and his wife, Susan, and Dean F. Dennis and his wife, Pat, all of Moncks Corner, and Don C. Dennis and his wife, Alys Anne, of Mt. Pleasant; four sisters, Virginia G. Adams and her husband, Jay, of Spartanburg, Ruthie G. Kennedy and her husband, Jerry, of Florence, Bertie G. Edens and her husband, Roddy, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Kaye G. Myers and her husband, Pete, of Moncks Corner; two brothers, Harold D. Green and his wife, Nancie, of Bamberg, and Dr. James F. Green and his wife, Kay, of Spartanburg; five grandchildren, Sunday, Frankie, LauraBeth, Trey, and Hannah Dennis; a step granddaughter, Rachel, and her husband, Billy, and a step great granddaughter, Jade.
