Daniel Eugene Turbeville, Jr., 90, resident of Covenant Place, husband of Dorothy Cole Turbeville, died Friday, October 24, 2008, at the Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Turbeville, South Carolina, he was a son of the late Daniel Eugene Turbeville, Sr. and Ethel Durden Turbeville. Mr. Turbeville was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Boyle Bible class. He attended The Citadel and he was a retired U.S. Air Force Colonel serving in World War II. He was a retired life insurance agent with John Hancock Life Insurance Company with 48 years of service. He was a lifetime member of the Million-Dollar Roundtable. He was past President of the SC Underwriters Association and past President of the Sumter Underwriters Association. He received the Carroll H. Jones Insurance Award, the J. A. McKnight Award and was in the insurance business for 60 years. He was past Commander of American Legion Post 15, past Commander of the Forty and Eight Club, and was active in the USO. Surviving are his wife of 64 years of Sumter; one son, Daniel Eugene Turbeville, III, and wife Dianne of Cheney, Washington; one daughter, Denise Barker and husband Larry of Columbia; four sisters, Sylvia Moseley, Joanne Keels, Marjorie Thrasher, and Celeste Rivers, all of Sumter; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Debi Turbeville. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stephen Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors. Honorary Pallbearers will be members of the Boyle Bible Class. The family will receive friends at the home.
