All funeral services will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Dr. Hudson was the son of the late Herschel Lilburn Hudson and Fay Curlee Hudson of Charleston, SC. His amazing accomplishments began at an early age, when he was honored to play as a youth in the Charleston Symphony Orchestra directed by George Theodore Wickman. He attended the Citadel, prior to volunteering to serve in the United States Marine Corps in World War II, where he served aboard the USS Lake Champlain, during the time it was commissioned and de-commissioned including when it broke the transatlantic speed record returning from Gibralter, and also the USS Missouri. He earned his Ph.D. and a Master’s Degree from Indiana University with concentrations in cross cultural anthropology, physical anthropology, and sociology. He also received undergraduate and Master’s Degrees from the University of South Carolina. He did graduate research in anthropology while living among the Eskimos in Barrow, Alaska and in the 1970’s brought the Leaky Foundation to the Citadel. Among his publications was the statistical book Classifying Social Data. He retired as Professor Emeritus from the Citadel, where he was instrumental in establishing their major in Criminal Justice. He was perhaps best known as a talented pianist and as a man with a big smile and generous heart and high principles.
