Dr. Roy John Butz, Brighton, MI, age 77, passed away at University of Michigan Hospital on Sunday, July 20, 2008. Born to Kurt and Alma Elizabeth (Stahl) Gruber Butz on February 23, 1931 in New York. He was a member of the Unitarian Univeralist Fellowship of San Miguel de Allende. Dr. Roy John Butz was an extraordinary man who epitomized the postive characteristics of what Man strives to be. He was respected and admired by the many people who were touched by his presence. His work ethic, his consideration of others, his optimism, his willingness to incorporate new ideas, his creativity, and his humility made Roy a man whose great characteristics are worthy of treasured memories and thoughts about him. His brilliance as a thinker, planner, a man of action, and a man of compassion combined with his ability to mentor, to guide, to challenge, and to be aware of the needs of those around him challenge each of us to strive toward the ideals he represented. He is survived by his wife, Beryle Marguerite Burdick-Butz; his son, Eric (Jonna) Butz, daughter Jennifer Butz, son Stephen (Kimberly) Butz, grandchildren Owen and Trygvy. From humble beginnings Dr. Roy Butz, expanded his life, his thoughts, and his dreams to achieve a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania. His dreams to leave a legacy in his lifetime were achieved by his accomplishments and the impact he had on people near and far. He will be dearly missed. Cremation has taken place. The family will be accepting friends at 1 p.m. with a memorial service following at 2 p.m. on Sunday July 27, 2008 at Herrmann Funeral Home.
