Earle A. Hamrick Jr., a native of Shelby, passed away, Monday, June 30, 2008, at Hilton Head Regional Hospital. He was a graduate of the Citadel in the class of 1940. After attending graduate school at Wake Forest College, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Hawaii. As part of the Army of Occupation, he was sent to Japan after World War II. Hamrick returned to graduate school in 1946 at North Carolina State in Raleigh to study textiles. Hired by Burlington Industries, he was moved to their New York executive office in 1953. After 35 years, he retired as Group Vice President and moved from his home in Summit, N.J. to Hilton Head Island. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Germaine Gold Hamrick, who is also a native of Shelby; two daughters, Edon Waycott of Malibu, Calif. and Celia Kole of Chester, N.J.; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
