John Veyera entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, John Henry Veyera, 81, husband of Alice Elizabeth Scanlon Veyera, of Charleston. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Veyera are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 1:00 PM Friday, April 11, 2008 at the James A. McAlister Chapel. The Rite of Committal will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 PM at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home 1620 Savannah Hwy. John was born on Wednesday, August 25, 1926, in East Providence, RI a son of John F. Veyera and Ethel Nickerson Veyera. He was an Industrial Engineer for the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy and was the Deputy Director of DEH for the U.S. Army overseas. The Polaris Missile program brought John and his family to Charleston. He graduated from the Citadel Evening Program and was a member of Nativity Catholic Church, the Elk’s Lodge, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion and the AIIE. John is survived by his wife: Alice E. Veyera, his children: J. Stephen Veyera and his wife, Susan; Jacqueline A. Davis and her husband, Olin; David A. Veyera and Christine E. Hill and her husband, Ron; his grandchildren: Ted, Jennifer, John Henry, Remmington, Tripp and Elizabeth and two brothers, Albert Veyera and Robert Veyera.
