Thomas N. France Greenville Thomas Norris France, 84, died peacefully at home on Friday, March 7, 2008. He was born in Greenville on September 17, 1923, and was the son of the late Bertram Holroyd France and Lucille Norris France of Spartanburg, S.C. He attended The Citadel prior to serving in World War II, retiring from the U.S. Army Reserve as a Major. He graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Textile Management and spent his entire career with J. P. Stevens, Co. He was a member of St. Andrews Society of Upper South Carolina and a member of the Poinsett Club of Greenville. He is survived by his wife, Jane Carson France; his children, Thomas Norris France, Jr. and Karen Cothran France of Greenville, Jane Carson Richards and James Morrow Richards, Jr. of Lexington, Ky.; his grandchildren, James Morrow Richards, III and Taryn Strauss Richards of Ashville, N.C., Katherine Carson Richards and Thomas Norris Richards of Lexington, Ky., Karen Drew France and Jane Carson France of Greenville and a sister, Florine France Lyles and Frank A Lyles of Spartanburg, S.C. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. Services will be held Sunday, March 9 at 2 p.m. in the church with burial in the church yard. The family will receive friends following the interment in McCall Parlor at Christ Church. The Family is at the home. The family requests no flowers, but memorial contributions may be sent to Winyah Hospice or a charity of one’s choice.
