Charles P. Hammett, age 97, of Knoxville, went home to be with the Lord on January 23, 2023 He was a member of Wallace Memorial Baptist Church. Preceded in death by parents, John Thomas Hammett and Sadie Nora Cooper Hammett, his wife of 52 years – EllaMae McKnight Hammett, brother Marshall T. Hammett, sister Helen Mae Parks. He is survived by son, David Hammett, son and daughter-in-law, John and Brenda Hammett, daughter and son in law, Susan and Gary Rhea; grandsons, Mark Rhea and Matthew Rhea; granddaughters, Haley (Harrison) Hughes, Riley (Kaleb) Cooper, Allison (Kris) Combs, Baily (Justin) Hubbs, great-granddaughter – his name sake-Charlie Knox Hughes, sister-in-law; Carolyea Bowers, and many nieces and nephews. He served during World War II, graduated from the Citadel and worked at K25 in Oak Ridge, Tn. For 39 years. The family and friends are invited to attend graveside services at Greenwood Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28th, 2023. Kent Williams will be officiating and he will be buried with military honors by the Volunteer State Veterans Honor Guard. The family would like to thank everyone at Adoration Home Health, U.T.
