Gerald Evans Bozeman, Colonel, USAF, Ret., age 87, of Lilburn, Ga., passed away on January 1, 2023.
Col. Bozeman, a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran, was born on July 4, 1935. He was the third son of James Brunson Bozeman and Annie Brasington Bozeman of Lancaster, SC. A 1954 graduate of Lancaster High School and a 1957 graduate of The Citadel. He served proudly as a Combat Pilot, Operations Officer, and later as Commander in several flying and training assignments. He retired in 1985 after 28 years of service and subsequently held several leadership and operations management positions under civilian employ.
Col. Bozeman’s, military decorations include: the Legion of Merit, the Distinguished Fly Cross, Meritorious Service Medal with 2 devices, Air Medal with 7 devices, Combat Readiness Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 6 devices, Air Force Overseas Service, Long Tour Ribbon, Philippine Presidential Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with device, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
These and many other air combat awards were earned in flying and operations support of the Vietnam War in the KC135A, C130E, and the B52D and E models. He was a founding member of the American Air Museum in Britain, a life member of The Order of the Daedalians, a member of The Distinguished Flying Cross Society, The Citadel Alumni Association and the Air Force Association.
Col. Bozeman is survived by his wife of 47 years, Laurie Evans Bozeman, and three daughters, Katherine “Roxann” Bozeman Duva, of CA, Caroline Bozeman Hotmer (Roger Hotmer) of Flowery Branch, GA and Meredith Bozeman Myers (Jeremy Myers) of Lilburn, GA; grandchildren Brandon Hotmer, Christina Hotmer, Mikaela Myers and Wilkes Myers; best friends Mayson Callaway and Jeremy Myers.
The family will receive friends and family to celebrate The Colonel’s life at the Bozeman Residence on January 21, 2023, from 1pm to 3pm.
