Louis F. Allen, of Memphis, Tenn., a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on November 14, 2022. Louis was born in Memphis, TN on October 2, 1937. He graduated from Central High School in 1955. He attended the Citadel, the University of Tennessee, and the University of Memphis where he received his B.S. in economics in 1960 and was president of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. In 1964 he graduated from the University of Mississippi School of Law and earned his J.D. degree. He proudly served in the Judge Advocate General Corp (JAG) of the Air Force Reserves.
Louis practiced law at Waring Cox and Glankler Brown for 53 years until his retirement in 2017. He was primarily a trial lawyer and was a partner in both law firms. He was a member of the American Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Association, Mississippi Bar Association, and Memphis & Shelby County Bar Association. Louis was listed in the Best Lawyers in America, Super Lawyers, and was a Fellow of the American College Trial Lawyers, Fellow of the Tennessee Bar Foundation and Fellow of Memphis & Shelby County Bar Foundation.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Carole Jane, his father, Elburn Allen, Sr, his mother, Evelyn Allen, brother Elburn Allen, Jr and beloved aunt, Bernice Green, who raised him after his mother died in childbirth, and uncle, Arthur Green.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Allen of Atlanta, son, Louis F. “Bo” Allen, Jr (Elizabeth), grandsons, Louis F. Allen, III, James Allen and Griffin Allen and brother, Charles Allen.
Louis loved athletics growing up and played football at Central High School and The Citadel. One of his fondest memories was being carried off the field at Crump Stadium after he caught the game winning touchdown in the last three seconds against South Side to win the city championship his senior year. Louis cherished his friendships from Central High School and college, maintaining them throughout his life. He was an enthusiastic supporter of Ole Miss athletics, and he enjoyed his lake house at Pickwick where he spent many weekends fishing and boating with his family and friends. Louis was devoted to his children and grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
After a private burial, visitation will be held on Friday, November 18 at 12:00 in the Parlor at Christ Church Memphis with the funeral service to follow in Wilson Chapel at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations are made to Christ Church Memphis at 4488 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38117 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of the donor’s choice.
