William David Eady, age 85, of Sumter, beloved husband of Martha Jean “Jeanie” Smith Eady, died on Friday, Sept. 16, 2022, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.
Born in Due West, he was a son of the late John Nesbit Eady and Francis Isabel Rampey Eady. David graduated from The Citadel and then was commissioned as an infantry officer as an Airborne Ranger in the U.S. Army. He served his country proudly for more than 21 years. David and family attended church services at the Shaw Air Force Base Chapel. He was a member of the Military Officers Association of America, The Citadel Alumni Association and the American Legion Post 15. He will be remembered as a very loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his loving wife, Martha, he is survived by a stepson, Keith White of Camden; a stepdaughter, Susan Jones and her husband, Steve, of Dallas, Oregon; a sister, Rampey Thomas and her husband, Charles, of Clemson; and four grandchildren, Dane Jones, Kyle Jones, Parker White and Taylor DeBeers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, William David Eady Jr., and his brother, John Nesbit Eady Jr.
A private family memorial service will be held at noon on Friday at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery with military honors.
