The Citadel Alumni Association Contributes to Scholarships

The Citadel Alumni Association capped off a banner year of giving at its annual membership meeting. The Association will contribute $900,000 to support college operations, CAA legacy cadet and need-based scholarships, and enhance The Citadel’s Service to Country Tuition Scholarships and National Service Room and Board Scholarships for ROTC cadets.

  • Ralph Koo, ’89, recently returned from two months in the Donbas region of Ukraine, volunteering at a front-line hospital as an emergency physician, treating civilian and military causalities during the Russian invasion.

  • On April 13, 1970, Apollo 13, four-fifths of the way to the moon, was crippled when a tank containing liquid oxygen burst. 

While there were several teams tasked with calculating the final trajectory of the Apollo 13 capsule, the late Donald Small, '56, and his team made the closest projection of where the capsule would land in the Pacific Ocean.

The late E. Stokes Fishburne III, '57, working as a scientist for Grumman Aerospace Corporation, developed, with his partner, the algorithms for bringing the astronauts aboard Apollo 13 safely back to Earth.
